Confessions of an Intern – Week 1

Flamingos aren’t a Carolina norm but then youth ministry doesn’t involve  a lot of normal. My first assignment as an intern was to decorate a plastic yard flamingo with a depiction of my favourite Bible verse.

Hosea 2:19 says, “I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, steadfast love and in mercy.” Hence JT is supposed to resemble a groom. As a single girl it’s nice to know God’s got my back on the relational front – he wants to stick by my side for always. Comforting? I think yes.

I’ve survived my first week. Not only that, I did so without a single cup of I’m-about-to-go-insane coffee. (It should be noted that I didn’t fetch anybody one of those either.) Working with my best friends may have something to do with this success – although when your boss tells you to continue taking care of your soul despite having a heavy workload, stress really is a non-issue.

I’m absolutely thrilled that youth group beach camp starts this Monday but a piece of me will miss an IKEA -infused office filled with people who love serving the Lord and laughing lots. This intern got worked hard and is all the happier for it.
